I've decided that I need to keep a better record of my children's lives otherwise they will be all grown up before I blink. So, we have started this blog "My Sweet Cacoozies". So, what is a "Cacoozie"? Well, this is a term that Michael used a couple of days ago to describe the stage when a caterpillar changes into a butterfly and it stuck. So, welcome to My Sweet Cacoozies!

A Happy Easter

We had a great Easter this year after all. Initially, I was going to spend Saturday afternoon with the kids doing what they wanted to do. Emily decided that we should watch a movie at the movie theater. I agreed ". . . if she was good while I ran my five errands". As I was leaving Costco (the last errand), I saw a line of sheds at Lowe's. I decided to drive by for just a look. They had one that was the perfect size and was marked down really cheap. After a lot of drama and wasted time, I ended up with a new shed for the house and Emily did not end up watching a movie. Nor did we make it to dying the Easter Eggs . . . but . . .

Emily was up early on Sunday morning and came and climbed into bed with us. Emily wanted to know if the Easter Bunny had come. I said I didn't know she'd have to wait until Mikey got up. Finally, Mikey got up, we got the video camera and went downstairs where the Easter Bunny had left each of the kids a lovely basket from Walmart. After they were done and I was picking up the trash I realized that the Easter Bunny had mistakenly left the gigantic price stickers on the baskets . . . I'm sure as I look back at the video later I will be really amused by that. Anyway, the Easter Bunny did an excellent jobs of picking baskets. Michael got a basket with hockey, golf, and baseball and Emily got a basket of decorations for her room. Both baskets keep the kids entertained most of the afternoon.

Then it was off to the egg hunt in the backyard. The Easter Bunny learned a couple of lessons about egg hunting this year.
  1. Things look a lot different in the middle of the night (ie - don't throw eggs into spider webs). Emily was really disgusted with this.
  2. If you have a lot of snails and slugs, do not put the eggs in the garden area or downspouts. You can't imagine the number of snails/slugs that can accumulate on an egg in a couple of hours.
  3. Know when the sprinklers go on and turn them off if necessary. The unwrapped candy in the plastic eggs did not fair to well with the morning drenching.

Then we dyed the Easter Eggs. I've decided Easter Egg dying is really a group activity. I'll invite other kids over next time. But we had a great time and I love the Clorox bleach pen!!

All that occurred before 8:00 am which left plenty of time to get ready for church. For the rest of the afternoon, I just hung out with the kids and did what they wanted. This entailed:

  1. Me actually jumping on the trampoline
  2. Me playing a rousing game of hockey in the kitchen
  3. Me laying on the grass in the front yard looking for animals in the clouds
  4. Me chasing the kids as they road scooters, bikes, trikes and everything else up and down the driveway
  5. Me actually watching a movie on the TV with the kids in my lap instead of them watching a moving and me cleaning or paying bills or doing something other than paying attention to them
  6. Me playing Uno with Emily (I won of course)
  7. And finally a longer than usual round of bedtime story reading.

I had a great time playing with the kids and need to remember to spend more time just playing.

  2. I have totally been thinking the same thing. I need to just give them my time...everything goes smoother that way...less fighting and less nagging...more love! I laughed at the lessons learned!
